Header dan Separator

Header email merupakan bagian yang paling atas dari source ini. Header ini berfungsi memberikan informasi tentang isi dan format email. Contohnya Subject, Pengirim dan Penerima email. Informasi pada header juga ditambah setiap email melewati mail server atau relay. Pada Header ini juga diperoleh informasi tentang separator yang digunakan untuk memisahkan anatominya, didefinisikan pada bagian boundary :    ————–070506070409020009070608– , artinya , antara header, body dan attachment dipisahkan oleh karakter ini

Pada dasarnya, email hanya dapat mengirimkan pesan teks. Maka digunakan protokol agar emai dapat juga mengirimkan format lain, protokol itu disebut MIME (Multipurpose Internet Main Extension). Protokol ini yang akan ditambahkan pada setial Body atau Attachment, dapat dilihat pada bagian atasnya, misal pada Attachment (diketahui merupakan tipe teks dan encoding yang digunakan)

Body merupakan badan pesan yang berisi pesan teks. Karena hanya berupa teks, maka pesan hanya dikodekan ke dengan 7 bit ASCII (128 karakter)

Attachment dan Format Encode

Attachment biasanya adalah pesan tambahan, namun dalam format lain (bukan teks). Tapi kali ini saya mencoba mengattach sebuah teks dan sebuah gambar. Menurut protokol MIME pesan ini harus diencode dulu menjadi suatu teks agar sebelum dikirim,

Hasilnya baik file  teks maupun file gambar diencode menggunakan format base64 (bukan 7 bit ASCII seperti pada body).  Hasilnya adalah kumpulan teks yang sukar dibaca😀

Setiap Mail Agent seperti Thunderbird tentunya memiliki decoder untuk merepresentasikan isi attachment. Jika anda tertarik untuk encode dan decode dengan base64, bisa mencoba barisan tulisan attachment diatas dengan aplikasi ini http://www.motobit.com/util/base64-decoder-encoder.asp
